honey

honey

when i kiss the tops
of your feet

this is what i am saying:

hey, you know
i am juggling many
lives here

and, you know
i am very clumsy
but sincere—smitten—

now, this isn’t fair
and i’m not even asking you
because i know

if i ever stumble
if my legs are ever tripped—
dropping to the floor

only you,
yes, only you
will never flinch

only you,
yes, only you
will know my love for you

was never dropped
never fumbled—
my hands are always always

moving for you

when i kiss the tops
of your feet

that is what i am saying

and i walk through days
with the taste of you
on my lips
sweeter than honey

can you hear me?—
slip off your shoes and socks
look down to your feet
honey-comb sweet

hear me?

            i love you

sometimes whispers
of love and desire
sigh and resonate
as honey poured
over a coffee-warmed spoon
